Lattices

The structures in these linear compositions represent interconnectivity, each part of the whole having equal value, with movement and gesture distributed throughout the visual space. I paint the  lattices on colored grounds using oil paint and oil glazes, working freehand to improvise the layered line work over a period of days, as if making a very large, fluid drawing.

The resulting compositions resemble complex structures that occur in the natural world. While they mirror forms in physiology,  botany, hydrology and biology, they can be read as visual metaphors for the network of mutual interdependence and interconnection in which we all exist.
